For a smoother sauce, remove the onion and garlic pieces before spreading on pizza dough. Use a slotted spoon or tongs to easily remove them after the sauce has simmered.
For a chunkier sauce, leave the onion and garlic in for added texture and flavor.
This sauce can be stored in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw completely before using.
Adjust the amount of sugar to your liking, depending on the sweetness of your tomatoes and wine. Taste and add more as needed.
